Electrical Project Engineer - JHB North, Gauteng

Our client, an innovative engineering firm specializing in construction and consulting services and expanding into the IPP market, seeks an Electrical Project Engineer.

Work Activities and Responsibilities:

• Plan, execute, and oversee the construction of 1MW+ solar farms, managing power distribution and home connections while adhering to timelines, quality standards, and budgets.
• Manage the construction of electrical power transmission and distribution projects from conception to completion, ensuring alignment with timelines, quality standards, and budgets.
• Supervise the installation of electrical equipment and systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and project specifications.
• Design, test, and implement electrical transmission lines and distribution systems.
• Collaborate with diverse teams to align projects with goals and industry regulations.
• Manage engineering design processes, conducting site assessments and technical evaluations for optimal solutions.
• Assist in creating technical drawings using AutoCAD for substation and line construction.
• Review specifications and recommend changes to achieve power system design objectives.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to improve project performance.
• Develop design specifications and functional requirements for power systems or components.
• Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement strategies for successful delivery.
• Offer technical support to installation teams during construction and testing.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
• Create checklists for reviewing completed installation projects.
• Lead the tender process, providing technical guidance on equipment selection.
• Maintain detailed reports of electrical projects.

 
Skills and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Additional certifications or a master's degree in electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, or renewable energy would be advantageous.
• 7 to 10+ years of proven experience in project management and engineering within the power transmission and distribution sector; solar project experience is beneficial.
• Strong comprehension of power transmission and distribution infrastructure systems.
• Experience in tendering and managing turnkey electrical transmission and distribution projects.
• Proficiency in project management tools like MS Project and CAD software such as AutoCAD is beneficial.
• Ability to lead and manage a team of junior engineers.
• Excellent communication skills, collaboration abilities, and proactive problem-solving approach.
• Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, multitask, prioritize, work independently and as part of a team, and perform under pressure.
• Fluent in spoken and written English; knowledge of French is advantageous.
• Excellent time management, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
• Strong computer literacy.
• Willingness to travel internationally.
